First off I want to give a shout out to my daughter Karyna for completing 10 miles with Helene. That was awesome to see her out on the course. Thanks Helene! My awesome crew Karen and Alyssa thanks for having everything ready on all laps, all day long – tough job. Nick and Jeff thanks for running some miles with me and keeping my mind off of the pain. The volunteers from Pretzel City Sports did awesome job like they do every year. And last thanks to all my friends for always supporting me at this race…it means so much!!!
This was my 6th year running this race and I must say it doesn’t get any easier;-) The first 6 laps were faster than I ever remember starting (39+,41+,41+,41+,44+,47+). The 7th lap(61+) was when things went downhill for a lap. I really had thoughts of pulling the plug and just chilling for the rest of the day but it turned around for the best. My shoes felt so tight and were killing my feet. Once I made it back to the start I changed my shoes to a pair that was a little larger. I would also soak my compression socks/shoes with water every lap thereafter-the cold water felt great on my legs/feet. Best decision I made all day. The rest of the laps(50+,47+,50+,55+,52+,56+,52+) went pretty well with no major issues.
The total for all 6 years: 420 miles/84 laps and I still keep coming back! It is definitely more than a race. If you never were a part of this race you need to be there next year – running or chilling! The support from everybody is amazing! Everyone cheers each runner on – one big family! Until next – year keep moving forward!!!
